1536: THE KING’S NEW LOVE
(STORYLINE)
Unique among most festivals, including renaissance festivals, the Maryland Renaissance Festival utilizes a storyline and progresses each year forward in the timeline of Henry VIII, through all his reign and all six of his wives. This season the year is 1536, and as ever, the King’s love life is the source of gossip.
King Henry VIII joyfully awaits his betrothal to Jane Seymour, who will be his third wife. What's the hold-up? He must wait for the execution of his second wife, Anne Boleyn. Like a wake of vultures, courtiers are jockeying for positions among the soon-to-be Queen's household, and for the riches left behind of those condemned with Anne Boleyn. Out with the Boleyns, in with the Seymours and their allies! Orchestrating the proceedings is the King's powerful principal secretary, Thomas Cromwell. A man at the peak of his powers. For now.
In the village, Sir Richard Mondes, Mayor of Revel Grove, and his wife, Baroness Marney, await the arrival of Alessandro de' Medici, Duke of Florence. He hopes to make a very lucrative trade deal. What the Mayor wasn't expecting was the arrival of his mother and brother, Audrey and Monty Mondes. Not exactly the noble people one had been led to expect! All the villagers of Revel Grove are on hand to welcome the King, court, and our gracious guests to a fabulous day of feasting, some intrigue, and much merriment!
The Royal Intrigue is just one aspect of the Maryland Renaissance Festival, set in the Village of Revel Grove where visitors can find all manner of amusement, feasting, and shops galore. More than 200 performers fill ten stages and taverns as well as the streets of the village with continuous entertainment. A three-thousand-seat jousting arena host authentic combat joust thrice daily as well as other large exhibitions. More than 140 merchants fill their shops with their predominately handcrafted wares by the artisan in the shop, as well as various demonstrating shops creating treasures before your eyes. Forty-two food and beverage emporiums and five taverns create a feast throughout the village to sate your appetite and quench your thirst.

Maryland Ren Fest Policies:
- No refunds/No rainchecks. Pets are NOT allowed with the exception of trained service animals.
- No beverages in through the gates (1 personal size sealed from the manufacturer bottle of water permitted per person).
- Food is permitted but no coolers are permitted through gates.
- Smoking is allowed only in Designated Smoking Areas (DSAs). All other areas are smoke free.
- No weapons (costume or real).
- Patrons are welcomed to wear costumes suitable for a family-friendly atmosphere to get into the spirit of the event!
- All performers are paid by the King's purse and scheduled by the Artistic Director. Performers will not ask for or accept tips. Patrons are not permitted to perform. Thank you.
Details:
$42 - covers the cost of your ticket and staffing.
$50 - covers the cost of ticket, carpooling transportation, and staffing.
Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and shoes good for walking. The terrain is mostly grass with minimally paved surfaces. This event is rain or shine!
Bring extra spending money for food and souvenirs!
There are 12 carpooling spots available for this event or meet us at Maryland Renaissance Festival. If you are interested in carpooling please arrive at The Life Skills & Social Studio at 9am and we will arrive back at 6pm.
If you would like to meet us at Maryland Renaissance Festival, please arrive at 10am and plan to be picked up at 5pm.
